What are wrongful death protections?

Wrongful death protections can be essential for family members who have had a loved one wrongfully killed in a traumatic accident. Wrongful death options provide important protections to help family members with some of the challenges they face during an unthinkably difficult time.

Personal injury legal protections include wrongful death claims available to families to help them recover compensation for the damages they have suffered because of the wrongful loss of their loved one. A wrongful death claim can be brought on behalf of, and for the benefit of, surviving family members and can help them recover compensation for their financial and emotional damages they have suffered as a result of the wrongful death.

Damages for a wrongful death claim depend on the unique circumstances of the situation and the characteristics of the lost loved one but may include compensation for the loss of support and services; lost prospect of inheritance; loss of companionship; and medical and funeral expenses. Whenever a loved one has been wrongfully lost because of the negligence of another party, the negligent party may be liable to compensate family members for the damages they have suffered.

Because of the unbearably difficult position family members can face when they unexpectedly suffer the wrongful death of their loved one, wrongful death protections are available to help. It is useful for families to be familiar with what these protections are and how they can protect and help them during the tough days ahead following the unexpected loss of a loved one.
